What Is ScreenEze? A Plain-English Guide for Twin Cities Porch Owners

If you've been looking into screening in a porch, you've probably run into the name ScreenEze. We install it on porches and decks all over the Twin Cities, and we get the same handful of questions about it every week. Here's the short version.

What ScreenEze is

SCREENEZE® is a screen framing system made for porches. Instead of stapling screen to the posts and covering the staples with wood trim (the old-school way), a base strip gets fastened to your porch framing, the screen is stretched into it, and a vinyl cap snaps over the top. The result is a clean, tight screen wall with no staples or trim boards to rot, warp, or repaint.

Why we like it for Minnesota porches

  • It stays tight. Stapled screen loosens and sags over a few seasons. ScreenEze holds tension much better.
  • Repairs are easy. If a branch, a dog, or a kid goes through a panel, you pop the cap, replace that one section of screen, and snap it back. No tearing apart trim.
  • It looks finished. The caps come in a few colors so they blend with your porch instead of looking like a patch job.
  • No yearly painting. There's no wood trim covering the screen, so there's nothing to scrape and repaint.

What kind of porches it works on

ScreenEze works on most covered porches, decks with a roof, and patios under an overhang. It mounts to your existing posts and framing, so you don't need to rebuild anything. Already have an old stapled screen porch? That's a screen porch conversion. If your posts are spaced really wide, we can add framing so the screen panels stay a manageable size.

Choosing the screen

Standard fiberglass mesh is the most common. If you've got pets, kids, or a spot that takes a beating, we'll usually talk about a heavier option like TuffScreen® or pet screen for the lower sections. Some folks go with a solar or privacy mesh on the sunny side. We'll walk you through it at the estimate.

How long it takes

Most porch installs are a one or two day job once materials are in. We'll give you a real timeline when we look at your porch.
